Recruiting effective teachers and getting them in the door at the start of school are just the first steps in hiring effective teachers. All teachers (and admin), both novice and veteran, also require ongoing, high-quality professional development to learn new skills, sharpen existing skills, and adjust to a changing instructional environment. Districts must continue to support the development of teachers throughout their careers to give them their best chance of reaching their potential as educators.
