Role of the School Counselor
School counselors play an essential role in their students' education. They are tasked with preparing students to become producative and contributing members of society. They act as advocates for all students, promoting success in their personal and academic lives through a focus on achievement, prevention and intervention activities, and social and career development. School couselors may achieve this in a variety of ways including, but not limited to: delivery of guidance curriculum to support student development; individual and group counseling; individual student planning and goal-setting activities; consultation and coordination activities to support student success, and effective interpretation of student assessment data.
